INTERNSHIP SUMMARY:
A student internship
opportunity is being offered through the CMN SDI Place-Based Opportunities for
Sustainable Outcomes and High Hopes (POSOH) project to work on coordinating,
organizing, and implementing sustainability education opportunities in the Menominee
Community. The POSOH project is intended to create opportunities for learners
to develop understandings, knowledge, and skills in place-based concepts
founded in science and culture, using sustainability education strategies. CMN
Sustainable Development Institute is in the midst of several exciting projects
and is seeking to create more place-based sustainability education projects in
the broader community. As CMN continues to expand its efforts to become more
environmentally sustainable, one of the areas in which it has been a leader for
many years is in education and outreach. The intern will be responsible for working with
the Sustainability Education Coordinator to design, coordinate, and implement
hands-on education projects for a wide range of audiences in the community.
INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:
Internship
activities cover a wide range of sustainable education projects and activities. Duties include, but are not limited to:

Actively participate as a member of the
SDI POSOH 8th grade curriculum design team June 18-21.
·
Assist
in designing and developing place-based sustainability projects and lessons
with high school students.
·
Take
a lead in coordinating and implementing experiential place-based community
outreach events for broader Menominee Community.
·
Participate
in sustainability and bio-energy related learning opportunities—a component of
which may be at UW-Madison.
·
Attend
Project Team meetings and summits.
·
Perform
general office duties (data entry, filing, mailings, photocopying, etc.).
·
Assist
with tours, research, and special projects as assigned.
·
Perform
other duties and assigned.
PROGRAM
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
·
College
of Menominee Nation Student. (Required to be enrolled for Fall 2012).
·
Interest
in environmental/sustainability education, environmental stewardship, community
outreach.
·
Proven
ability to coordinate and implement projects.
·
Must
be a self-starter, willing to coordinate and organize community outreach
activities.
·
Must
enjoy working with young people.
·
Experience
working in an educational setting, teaching, and/or presenting in front of many
audiences.
·
Knowledge
of forestry and/or agriculture a plus.
TIMEFRAME AND SALARY:
The internship is from
June 4, 2012 to August 24, 2012.
Starting and ending dates are flexible to accommodate the intern’s
schedule. The internship is $12.00 per
hour for approximately 12 weeks for 32 hours per week for Summer 2012.
